The Unknown Upcoming(final)

October 15, 2007

If you would have went up to anyone about two years ago and asked them about the Pittsburgh Penguins, they most likely would have laughed in your face. After a struggling team with a terrible losing streak thought they had lost it all, fate stepped in and gave them a kid. That kid, Sidney Crosby, was drafted in 2005 and gave the team a new hope in a town where hockey was overshadowed by the Super Bowl 40 Champions. Sid finally gave the fans something to watch and a reason to show up for the games, not just because they had tickets. But, he was repeatedly made fun of and bashed by coaches and players throughout the league. The team stood by their teammate and defended him no matter what the cost. The fans continued to support the team, and Sidney Crosby, through the rumors and hardships, and continued to show up at every single game, mostly to see what new tricks Sid had up his sleeve that night. But, I had noticed, and I’m sure I’m not the only one, that the only time we started to get fans last season was no longer because of Sidney Crosby. It was because our team, the once hopeless, had the potential to make history by improving the most from one season to the next, and possibly even making the playoffs. Did anyone even remember that there was such a thing as playoffs? It was so far back in our minds that no one ever considered the thought. It didn’t bring all good news, though. It drew a familiar concept back into the hockey world yet again, something no one likes.  If there is one thing I can not stand along with the rest of the world, it’s the band wagon fans. Just because the Penguins could make history doesn’t give them a right to become a fan when the regular season is almost over.  I know that everyone likes to be part of something special, and the Penguins have definitely proven themselves to be that in the past two seasons. So I can understand why people would want to be a part of that. They went from last place to being a serious contender for the only thing important in hockey - the Stanley Cup. It just took a lot of hard work and dedication to finally reach their goal. A few young superstars helped that a little, though. For the 2007-2008 season, almost every home game is already sold out due to the high expectations for the Pens. We do need the money to fund the new arena, but young fans like me can no longer get tickets easily. We can’t afford the higher prices. It may not be what I want, but I am sure the Penguins wouldn’t mind a couple more fans at the games; that is, if you can even get tickets.

Save the People of Darfur

October 11, 2007

Earlier in the school year we wrote an essay about what we belive our passion is.  I believe that my pasison is to help people. More specifally the people who are affected by the genocide in Darfur. The Genocide in Darfur has recently become out of control. That is why I belive my passion in life is to raise awarness about different subjects as big as this. These people have dont nothing wrong yet there are over 400,000 people dead, nalong with that huge number there are over 2,5000 refugees.  If i could just help one person, it would start a chain reaction from one person to the next. Throughout the pass few years the United States has taken the responsiblity to stop the genocide in Darfur, by bringing in the Peace & Accountability Act. We the people of America, who have everything we could possibly need, need to act out and do whatever we can. Just think about it in on a more personal perspective. Most of us are between the ages 15-18, and throughout the past 4 years there have been over 90,000 African teenagers killed by this genocide in darfur. Just think about it, they are the same age as us. What makes our lives more valuable than ours. We are all equal according to Thomas Jefferson. Lets start helping each other out. ACT NOW

Khartoum womanInnnocent People, just look into the eyes.

scan-of-jake.jpgHave you ever felt as if you had to act a certain way, just to influence someone who looked up to you? Since I am looked up to either at school, at home, or even when I’m cheering at the football games, someone is always looking up to me. Whether it is for guidance, advice, or just in need of a positive influence, they are watching my every move. At my first football game, a little girl had been watching me cheer the whole first half. She shyly approached me at halftime to tell me that I had been doing a great job. She said “You guys are really good, I don’t know how you do all of those hard stunts.” It made me feel good because she noticed my hard work. I felt good to have known I had an impact on someone that wanted to be just like me, because I had shown her hard work, and a positive outlook on what she can accomplish if she just sets her mind to something.

My passion involves children and it is because I absolutely love little children, because they are our future. I try to be a positive role model at all times to children younger than me, because they idolize us. Most children look up to people older than them for guidance. It is important that we give them the right advice, and speak with a positive attitude. I want to continue being a great influence on them when I get older. I see myself when I do get older being someone really involved with the children of our society, like a teacher.

Teachers have huge responsibilities, to help these children grow up to be strong leaders. I want to help them to achieve their goals, learn, help, and guide them through their mistakes so they can grow up and be the best person they could possibly be. It all lies in the hands of today’s children. They inspire me so much, that’s why I want to be part of their growing lives. Their minds are like clay, just waiting to be molded. It is our responsibility to mold them into powerful people. This is why children are a very powerful aspect in our society. Even though they may be young and vulnerable, they have dreams, and goals like any other person. It is a teachers’ duty to help them attain those goals. They have the biggest impact on their young lives. We all know, believe it or not today’s children are indeed tomorrow’s leaders.  We have to make sure they are raised properly so we can help them build our future and so they can also start their own. If one thing in life is to make a difference, then I want to make a difference in a young person’s life. It is determination and goal setting that will create a good future and make a difference in our world. We will show children how and they can attain their goals, and make their dreams become a reality so they can grow up to be strong, dynamic leaders. That is my goal and passion in life…to help others, especially children.

Everybody, no matter deprived or wealthy, was blessed with one brilliant thing… life. People state that there is a meaning of life, but for me living life is what’s most important. You only get one opportunity to live on this earth for a generation; people should be focusing on making it worthwhile.

As a child growing up I have seen my father make bad choices resulting in losing his job, family and friends.  I am also currently writing to my friend who is now in George Jr., a placement for juvenile kids.  Both of these men where important in my life and they both went down the wrong path and ruined their relationship with both their family and friends.  I have seen people do unintelligent things and now they are paying for it.  I strive to inform people to live their life because who wants to waste their days looking out cell bars?

I am currently a member of the varsity cheerleading squad at our school.  This is my first year and I already see a change in my school work and actions.  I woke up every other day during the summer at 6 to practice, went to a competition at Kennywood, go to all the school football games and host pep rallies for our school.  I also met a brilliant group of girls this year that I would describe as my sisters.  A lot of people assume cheerleading isn’t a sport, and makes fun of cheerleaders and gives them a bad reputation.  If I would have believed all of the bad things people say I probably wouldn’t have tried out. Instead I kept an open mind and wanted to try something new.  I have accomplished so many good things now.  Now I am living life.  Cheerleading fills up my agenda and I love it.

My friends also mean a lot to me. I will never allow myself to watch them go down the wrong road.  I know we have all made bad choices, but we are all there for each other.   We are always out doing something together, for example movies, sleepovers, skating or just walking around town.  I love my friends so much and keep my life exiting.

I have also done many hobbies in my life.  Since I was little I have been a dancer.  Dancing has always been apart of me.  I have danced jazz, hip hop, tap and ballet.   I also rode horses for a long part of my life.  It was the best thing I have ever done and wish I still could.  I played soccer, cheered, took karate, draw, paint, did musicals and owned endless passes to the swimming pool.

Life is everybody’s passion.  A question that pops up a lot in pageant or surveys “What would you do if you found out you were dying?”  You get these answers like “I would go sky diving” or “take a vacation”.  Well everybody is dying, so live that way now.  Instead of doing awful stuff like drinking or doing drugs, stuff that can destroy you, go outside and take pleasure in nature.  The world in a beautiful place, enjoy it.

What thoughts come to mind when you think about the sports world? Overpaid
athletes, finely tuned bodies, or even in Sidney Crosby’s case, a pretty face? All of this may be true, but there is so much more to athletics than these stereotypes. My purpose, here and now, is to inform you about the positives dealing with sports
and professional athletes.

Most children get involved in sports at a young age. I strongly encourage
this because I believe that they teach many hidden lessons that can apply to
life even after sports. Also, sports can teach us how to remain humble, handle a ‘loss’, or most importantly, to work as a team. It is also important to remember where you came from. It is also crucial to understand that not everything will always work in your favor. And when each person contributes, the end result is much more rewarding. When a special bond is formed between teammates, a team becomes a whole. Joining a sports team helps a person to understand these concepts. Also, many professional athletes have a positive influence on our society. More specifically, Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. This professional hockey team is involved in various charities and organizations to help better our community.  I feel this is a very important role of any professional sports team. One of those organizations is the “Make a Wish” foundation. The penguins reserve tickets to various games for the children of this program and their families. In addition to giving away tickets, Sidney Crosby visited Karine, an avid Penguins fan from his native country, of Canada, to make her greatest wish come true. They also participate in another charity event, “Project Bundle Up”, which helps to clothe underprivileged children in time for the winter months.

Besides off of the court, ice, or field, sports can teach us a lot during the game. By simply observing a sport in the process, so many different emotions can be evoked. Immense frustration overwhelms you when the time on the clock starts slipping away and your team is falling behind. Inversely, your team winning the game in overtime, or even breaking a personal record is an absolute amazing feeling. For example, on February 10, 2007, Jordan Staal recorded a hat-trick becoming the youngest player in NHL history to do so. Fans around the world beamed with excitement cheering on the cardiac kids, also known as the Pittsburgh Penguins, who took the NHL by storm. The sports world has so much to offer. Personally, I have already learned a great amount from playing sports and watching my favorite sports team, obviously the penguins. I urge you to dig deeper: to pick up a new sport or even to leave ESPN on the television next time you’re flipping through the channels. You just might learn a few lessons.

Food

October 4, 2007

Are you ready to get Hungry! Food! Everybody eats, so that means there are tons of different types of food. You have to look at the different countries, then the different cultures too. Food, in part, is the key to understanding the world. And I love it! Now that we are hungry lets get into the meals. We shall start with breakfast. I love to eat a different breakfast than anyone else. You know like last nights dinner, cold fried chicken, pepperoni and anchovy pizza, ect. Yum Yum now I’m starving. That’s just some of my breakfast ideas. Now we shall get into brunch. I usually like to have some cake, cheesecake, or cookies. Maybe I’ll have something good for you like McDonalds. Now we can get into lunch. I usually like to do something simple. Like a grilled cheese sandwich or hamburger. I guess we can now get into dinner. I love this part of the day. I like to have mashed potatoes with some beef and some corn. Which leads me into supper, this usually is just left over dinner. Then you get into dessert. I love! love! love! this time of the meal cause it always tastes the best. I like to have a range of things. Anything from cheesecake to just cookies and milk.
And now we can talk about just mainly meal arrangements for adults. This will be including drinks, side dishes, everything you could combine to make a great meal. For breakfast you could have a nice decent meal consisting of a frittata or and egg white omelets with peppers, mushrooms, and a little sautéed spinach. This could be a great white collar breakfast person. For the blue collar worker I recommend having bacon, ham, eggs, sausage, and a side of home fries, toast, or biscuit. I would also recommend milk or orange juice to accompany either of these meals. Now for the mid-day snack. For anybody I recommend a muffin. That way you don’t eat too much but yet have enough to get you through to lunch. Speaking about lunch I would recommend something light. You know like something from a fast food place. I personally like Arbys. You could get the number 2 regular sized with your choice of fries for the average person, but if you have a voracious appetite you could get the number 3 large sized with your choice of fries. Later you can have another snack if you choose to. Now we are at the best time of day. DINNER! I love this meal because you have so many choices. For an elegant dinner with the wife I would suggest a nice bottle of wine or champagne. Then you would have an appetizer of maybe some sliced avocado drizzled with olive oil and lime juice. Then for the main course grilled chicken with stir fry vegetables and boiled sliced potatoes. Then for dessert a piece of cheesecake drizzled with cherry sauce.
Bon Appetitie!

Photography

October 4, 2007

Expressing myself though photography is amazing.  Photography is my life.  When you can express your feelings through just one picture is something everyone should try.  I feel so free when I am able to take pictures of anything but still am able to have the ability to express emotion through it. Any one can take pictures you don’t have to be a photographer.  When I take a picture of just something random I always look at it very closely after, I try to find the meaning in it.  Also when I do take a picture of a person I attempt to be a part of them when I take the picture.  I try so hard to make the picture means something to a person, especially when the picture is for someone important.  When I travel I have my camera with me twenty four seven.  Any place I go there is a possibility that there is going to be a moment that I can take an amazing picture.  You never know when the opportunity will come.  I think that I can change the world thought photography.  Changing the world was my passion at first but when I started doing photography, I absolutely had to change it. The way that you can change the world through photography is by taking a picture that millions of people will be inspired by.  When the people would look at the picture and know that they need to do something for the world, you know that you took a perfect picture.  You could take a picture of any type of disaster that has happened throughout the world and post it some where every one could see.  You can change the world you just have to put some effort in to it.  If you think about it photos are everywhere in the world.  You can’t even walk down a street and not even see a photo of something.  You see it every where.  If I can change the world through photography, then you can change it too.
