Take Time to Travel

October 2, 2007

“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.” This quote by Saint Augustine portrays my passion in life, which is to travel to as many places as I possibly can. I believe that by traveling, we can learn important things about other cultures and ways of life. Without traveling, we would constantly be surrounded by the same people doing the same old things. Not only would this make for a mundane existence, but it would also result in everyone being less understanding of different cultures, thus causing us to be less open and compassionate towards others.

In addition to exposing us to other lifestyles, travel also makes us more appreciative of what we have in our own backyard. The old expression “you don’t know what you’ve got ’till it’s gone,” never feels as real as it does when you find yourself in a new place missing everything you left behind. Travel is clearly an opportunity to make us appreciate not only other parts of the world, but our own smaller part of it as well.
